Description

Set of three vintage airline seats, originally from a Vickers VC10 run by BOAC, as far as we can tell. These planes were often used through till quite recently, by some overseas airlines. The upholstery was redone in the early 2000s and matches pictures found online of the interiors of these aircraft, but the seats themselves would've been made between 1962 and 1970 it seems. Certainly the style and colour of the plastic and metal trimmings would seem to confirm that. Wonderful ashtrays in the arm rests! I can just about remember smoking on a plane..madness. The dividing armrests lift up and there are press buttons to allow the backs to tilt backwards or to spring forwards again, all working. There are pull down trays at the rear, as expected, and the inevitable magazine/sick bag pockets too. All supported by a strong metal frame painted blue. Would make great home cinema seats. Condition is pretty good: structurally solid; one end armrest is slightly loose; probably needs a bolt tightening, if you can find a way in. Cosmetically there are various marks of age, mostly to the plastic components; generally giving it the required vintage look. The odd mark to the upholstery but not a lot. The pockets at the back are a little "baggy Anne" (as my strange partner likes to say. I don't know why. Or why I'm telling you..). Dimensions: 151cm x 85cm x 129cm high (seat height 50)
